In early October 2021, people began lining up at about two or three in the morning to buy bread from State Shop No. 32 in Dashoguz, northern Turkmenistan. By morning, the independent local report said, dozens were waiting. It identifies the shop, date, product and starting time, providing direct evidence of the queue rather than merely describing a shortage. Bread is among the most ordinary parts of daily life, but when supply is limited, the time needed to obtain it becomes a burden of its own. The pre-dawn line connects a universal need for food with the very different weight that waiting can carry under constrained distribution.
