In March 2023, long queues formed at Kuwaiti sweet shops for Ramadan qatayef. Al Rai recorded two sales peaks: from the afternoon prayer until the breaking of the fast at sunset, and again after the taraweeh prayer until about 1 a.m. Some customers waited in line for more than an hour.

Qatayef claimed the largest share of demand, followed by luqaimat, zalabiya, kunafa and other sweets. One customer said he had inherited the habit of buying from the same shop from his father. The sweets replaced energy after a day of fasting, but they also carried a family tradition into the evening gathering. The queue joined a religious timetable to a preference passed down across generations.
