On 14 January 2025, more than ten people queued at DBS Westgate in Singapore an hour before opening on the first day for collecting new and fit-for-gifting notes for Chinese New Year. The bank deployed seventy-two pop-up ATMs after three and a half months of preparation.
Singapore's monetary authority says about 100 million new notes are issued annually for Chinese New Year and other festivals; the previous year, banks also supplied more than 11.7 million fit notes. The short branch queue rested on months of printing, sorting, cassette loading and transport devoted to the condition of money placed in red packets.
