On Good Friday in Malta, life-sized Passion statues, costumed biblical figures and bands move through the streets in sequence. A government publication traces the processions to the sixteenth century and records hundreds following the statues.

The religious story is drawn across the town by people who not only watch but keep their place as they walk.
