Every Tuesday after Pentecost, Echternach in Luxembourg holds its hopping procession associated with Saint Willibrord. UNESCO records that participants gather early in the courtyard of the former abbey and that roughly 8,000 dancers are divided into about 45 groups. A UNESCO photograph caption explicitly says that groups of dancers wait their turn to enter the procession. Dancers form rows of five linked by handkerchiefs, move with accompanying bands, and eventually reach a service in the basilica. The ordered waiting confirmed here is not the procession itself. It occurs immediately before multiple groups merge, one after another, into a single ritual flow. What makes this queue distinct is that the unit being admitted is not an individual customer but an already organised group, released into a sequence of music, prayer, and movement.
