Dakar’s electric bus rapid transit system began commercial service on 15 May 2024. Reporting the next day, Dakarposte described a long queue at the opening of operations stretching from Grand Médine BRT station towards the police station in Parcelles Assainies. The passengers were waiting for their first journeys on the new dedicated bus corridor.

BRT is designed to separate public transport from ordinary road congestion. On opening day, however, demand at the station exceeded the pace at which people could enter and board. Before experiencing a faster trip, passengers had to wait for the gate and vehicle. A system built to remove delay from the road briefly created a new kind of waiting outside the station.
