On 19 May 2013, the 123rd anniversary of Ho Chi Minh's birth, thousands queued to enter his mausoleum in Hanoi. The Vietnamese newspaper Dân trí reported temperatures approaching 40°C and hundreds of domestic and international groups waiting between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m.; its photographs show the first lines forming for admission.
What distinguishes this queue is that it was not ordinary tourist congestion. Commemoration concentrated on a particular anniversary and took visible form as an ordered admission line. In severe heat, people were waiting not to inspect an exhibit, but for a brief opportunity to pay respects.
