In October 2020, a large queue of mothers waited for routine childhood immunization at Mirwais Regional Hospital in Kandahar, Afghanistan. UNICEF documented female mobilizer vaccinators providing health education to women in the line. The hospital received about 180 to 200 mothers daily, and many children were vaccinated secretly because of opposition within their families.

This was more than a registration wait. Female staff used the waiting time to explain vaccination and build trust, connecting the queue to newborn immunization and outreach beyond the hospital. The sequence for care also became a classroom.
