On 9 September 2025, students at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh formed a queue to vote in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union election. A Reuters Connect photo caption identifies the date, location, voters and purpose: students waiting their turn at a campus polling station.
DUCSU represents student interests, but it also occupies an important place in Bangladesh's political history. This was therefore more consequential than a line for a campus event. Students who are normally assessed as individuals in classes and examinations passed through the same voting procedure one by one. The photograph cannot tell us which candidate anyone supported or how each voter felt. It can show something more basic: shared waiting allowed conflicting political choices to enter one election without requiring agreement among the people in line.
