On 18 September 2026, first-day sales of the iPhone 18 Pro series produced queues at Apple Stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Noida. At the Bandra Kurla Complex store in Mumbai, the first customer to receive a phone said he had waited about ten to twelve hours to secure that position. In Saket, New Delhi, customers gathered before the launch and staff applauded them when sales began.
This was not a queue for a necessity. Even when ordering online or buying later remained possible, being among the first purchasers was part of the product. A coordinated launch created the same form of waiting in several cities on the same morning.
The device inside the box was mass-produced, but the order of receiving it existed only once. Ten hours purchased not just a phone but a position—“first at this store”—that no later customer could reproduce.
