In 2020, women and young people queued early outside a milk collection centre in Bundzoo village near Pulwama, Kashmir, waiting their turn with milk. The district had more than forty collection centres and produced 850,000 litres each day.

A former house-to-house collection network had changed after the six-month shutdown of 2016: suppliers now gathered milk from homes and brought it to collection points. This was not a queue of buyers. It was the entry point through which livestock-owning households fed small quantities into a regional processing network.
