During Ramadan in 2023, visitors queued at Hamadan Al-Rabghi's fried-liver stall in Al-Balad, Jeddah's historic district. Arab News documented customers waiting their turn and reported that Al-Rabghi had worked in the trade for about twenty years. His stall operated in the narrow interval between the afternoon prayer and Maghrib, the sunset prayer that marks the breaking of the daily fast.
Those few hours before iftar create an intense seasonal market for small food sellers. The report noted that some traders in the area earned more than 500 riyals a day, with higher takings on weekends. The line was therefore not simply for a snack. Customers preparing for a shared deadline at sunset and vendors relying on a concentrated month of business met in the same street and were ordered by the same queue.
