In 2018, a long pre–Mid-Autumn Festival line formed outside a popular pastry shop in Changhua, Taiwan, with purchases capped at sixty egg-yolk pastries per person. TVBS reported that some customers brought several children to multiply their allowance, prompting the shop not to count children under 140 centimetres as separate buyers.
A per-person rule cannot operate until someone decides who counts as a person for the limit. A family in line could be both a festival outing and a way to expand one household’s buying allowance.
