Long lines formed at polling stations across Uganda during the general election on 14 January 2021. Local reporting preserved a photograph of soldiers and civilians standing in the same voting line in Kampala and recorded cases in which slow biometric-verification equipment delayed the poll.
What distinguishes this queue is that technology intended to make identification faster and more reliable narrowed the entrance to voting. The line recorded participation, but it also tested how many people the election system could process in practice.
