In 2022, visa demand overwhelmed the Moroccan consulate in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The consul general said issuance that normally took about two days had stretched beyond two weeks. Travel suppressed during the pandemic returned at once, combining applications for study, business and transit at the same office.
A visa queue does not advance by arrival time alone. Passports, invitations, funds and purpose must be checked, and an incomplete file can stop. Even when no applicants stand outside, submitted passports form an internal documentary line. The queue of files may be longer than the visible crowd.
Reporting confirms the extended processing period but does not give a reliable headcount for an outdoor line on a particular day. The distinctive feature is therefore the transfer of sequence from body to passport. Applicants can go home, yet their identity documents and travel plans continue waiting inside the consulate.
A passport held for longer could not be used for another journey or identity check. Delay therefore extended not only the departure date but the period in which the applicant lacked control of a crucial document.
