In March 2022, when registration for Polish PESEL numbers opened to people displaced from Ukraine, a huge line formed at a temporary centre in Warsaw's National Stadium. Euronews footage recorded that people joining at 8 a.m. on Saturday were told they were already too late for that day and should return on Sunday.
What distinguishes this queue is that one number served as a common gateway to employment, health care, education and social support. After displacement, people waited against the centre's daily capacity to connect their lives to those systems.
