A prison visit in Singapore does not begin with an unannounced walk to the counter. Authorized family members and other visitors must book a slot at least two days in advance, using an online portal, a self-service kiosk, or the booking hotline. On the day, visitors must reach a Prison Link Centre early—30 to 45 minutes before a face-to-face session, or 15 to 30 minutes before a tele-visit—and obtain a queue number for registration.

Even with an appointment, identity and supporting documents are checked one visitor at a time. The number is a small but important ordering device in a controlled institution: it determines whose paperwork is handled next and keeps access orderly. A late visitor loses the original session and must reschedule. Even when the person they want to see is nearby, the route across the threshold still passes through two forms of waiting: a reserved slot and a numbered turn.
